The Adelaide Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) is an accelerated 482/494 pathway for regional employers. This guide explains who qualifies, what occupations are eligible, and how manufacturing businesses use it.

What is a DAMA?

DAMAs are five-year regional migration agreements between the federal government and state/territory DAMA-approved authorities. They allow regional employers to access 482 (Skills in Demand) and 494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional) visas for occupations that wouldn’t normally be on the federal Skilled Occupation List, with concessions on age, English, salary or experience.

Adelaide specifics

The Adelaide DAMA covers occupations critical to the regional economy — including roles in manufacturing, hospitality, aged care, construction trades, and primary industry. Concessions typically include:

• Salary concession — sponsor below the federal Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold
• Age concession — sponsor candidates up to 55 (vs federal cap of 45)
• English concession — IELTS 5.0 average vs federal 5.0 per band
• Experience concession — 1 year skilled experience vs federal 2 years

How to apply as a manufacturing employer

1. Confirm you’re in the Adelaide region geographically
2. Engage the DAMA-approved authority for your region (they endorse before federal nomination)
3. Demonstrate you couldn’t fill the role locally (LMT)
4. Submit a DAMA Endorsement application
5. On endorsement, lodge 482/494 nomination + visa application federally
6. Comply with the DAMA reporting obligations annually

Timeline is typically 8–14 weeks end-to-end, faster than non-DAMA sponsorship in many cases because the regional authority does pre-vetting.
